Telemetrics' new PT-RM-1 pan/tilt head is designed for capturing sporting events or studio use. It is a brushless 360° head with heavy-duty bearings and belt drive to ensure quiet, smooth operation.
“Our new PT-RM-1 has been engineered for capturing fast action in live sporting events or studio settings,” said Anthony Cuomo, Telemetrics' VP and General Manager. “Its many features provide robust solutions to the demanding requirements of even the most challenging situations.”
It offers variable operating speeds, including a velocity range of 0.005° to 90° per second and acceleration of up to 180° per second. Multi-axis control includes pan, tilt, zoom, focus, track, Televator, dolly, iris and master pedestal. Up to 255 pre-sets can be memorized and the pre-set recall function features an on-the-fly time parameter to enable all axes to start and stop simultaneously using pre-programmed acceleration parameters.
Control of the camera and lens is analogue or digital serial via RS-232, RS-422 or 10/100 BaseT Ethernet. Power is provided from a 48v DC source, and a DC-DC converter provides the appropriate levels to power the pan/tilt head, camera, lens, teleprompter and other auxiliary robotic devices. A serial camera control interface for most Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Ikegami and Hitachi cameras is available.
To assist in more easily managing cables, it can harness power, serial/Ethernet control, video, genlock and prompter video cables at the base of the Pan/Tilt unit. The tilt yoke provides a direct interface to the camera, lens and teleprompter to avoid twisted cables when the unit is rotated. The PT-RM-1 may be installed upright or inverted and can support a dynamic load of almost 16kg. In manual mode, the pan/tilt head offers fluid movement.
New PTZ camera control software
Its TeleSoft Camera Control Automation software can be used with a touch screen or a mouse to manoeuvre around its graphical interface, and operators have full camera control of up to eight cameras using a virtual joystick, and can store up to 16 presets. The Windows-based software can also be used with an optional DirectX Gaming joystick (pictured), with assignable buttons for P/T/Z/F.

It’s a powerful yet affordable solution that fits the demands of today’s production and recording environments,” claimed Cuomo.
Besides the basic PTZ, focus and elevation functions, TeleSoft can adjust camera video performance, by changing CCU settings using automatic GUI indicators. A direct serial control connection now complements the existing Device Server-Ethernet control system configuration. XY Axis Control Slider Bars are also available.
Telemetrics also offers a hardware-based Camera Control Automation system for these cameras. That offers additional controls for studio operations. The RCP-TS units feature an intuitive GUI with a joystick for camera pan, tilt, zoom, focus, iris and master pedestal control. An assignable knob controls the GUI and CCU functions, which emulate the camera manufacturer’s setup panel.
Both the Telesoft and RCP-TS Camera Control Automation systems can control a mix of Canon PTZ cameras including the NU-700, BU-45H and BU-50H. The systems can also be used to control Sony P/Z cameras, Telemetrics Robotic Pan/Tilt Heads and broadcast cameras.
